The Midwives

Anne and Sheena work with the doctors to provide care and advice to all pregnant women. They are available to give advice on your options for antenatal care, where you can give birth (including at home) and how best to look after yourself and your partner when trying for a baby and during pregnancy.

The midwives run antenatal clinics, birth preparation classes,  and a home birth support group with other local midwives.  Antenatal clinic visits are available with either the midwife or the doctor.

Your booking appointment will be arranged at the Surgery when you are 10-12 weeks pregnant.
Follow up appointments will be on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 1.30 -3.30 pm
Antenatal classes are at the Hanham Folk Centre on Wednesdays between 1.00-3.00pm.
Home Birth Support Group at Cadbury Heath Health Centre is on the 2nd Wednesday of alternate months.

Newly Pregnant?

CLICK HERE to work out your dates!

Please phone the surgery to inform us of the good news. Home pregnancy testing kits that are widely available are very accurate and it is not necessary to "confirm" the result by sending further samples to a laboratory. You will need to pick up a "booking pack" from the surgery which will explain what you need to do next. It is quite comprehensive and covers areas such as your diet, scans, tests etc. Most women do not necessarily need to see a doctor provided they are generally well and healthy. However, please arrange to see your doctor if you have any concerns or simply want to share the news! Please note that if you are uncertain about your dates i.e when your last menstrual period was, then you should be seen. You can calculate how many weeks you are by clicking here. Finally, just a reminder that if you are pregnant, it is recommended that you take folic acid supplements for the first 12 weeks of your pregnancy. This is to prevent spinal cord abnormalities. Ideally, you should start folic acid when you first start trying to get pregnant but otherwise as soon as you suspect you may be pregnant will do. It is widely available in all chemists.
