Appointments

The surgery is open 8.30 am to 6.30 pm on weekdays . Outside these times an emergency service is provided.

Routine and Urgent appointments - Telephone 0117 967 5201 or in emergencies between 1 - 2pm, 0117 9676482.

Surgery and Clinic attendance is by appointment only, though urgent cases will always be fitted in.

Currently we are using a new appointment system known as "Advanced Access" in an attempt to improve our service and meet government targets.

At present a number of appointments for each doctor are opened up one week only in advance. You will be able to book these from 8.30am, up to 7 days in advance. However the majority of the appointments are opened up on the same day, these can be booked after 8.30am - Patients do not have to have an urgent problem to be offered these appointments. Appointments may be made in person or by telephone. The reception staff will always try to offer you an appointment time convenient to yourself.

We are constantly reviewing and fine tuning this system so that it will hopefully provide a satisfactory service to our patients.

Each day there is an allocated duty doctor who would be able to see you or speak to you particularly if your own doctor is unavailable.

If you cannot keep an appointment please ring and cancel, so that it can be given to somebody else.

Emergencies
- Telephone 0117 967 6482

All emergencies will be dealt with as soon as possible either in the surgery or at home if necessary. Please make every effort to attend the surgery where possible. Please note this phone number is for real emergencies only.

Home Visits - Telephone 0117 967 5201

Home visits are at the discretion of the doctor who may wish to speak to you before agreeing to visit. If you are housebound and too ill to come to the surgery please telephone and leave a message, preferably before 11.00 am, to enable the doctors to plan their rounds. Where transport is a problem please try to get a neighbour or a friend to bring you down to the surgery.
If you are expecting a call at night, please leave an outside and/or upstairs light on. Ensure your house is clearly numbered. Please think of your Doctors safety at night.

Out of Hours (6:30pm to 8am weekdays and all weekend till 8am Monday)

Telephone 0117 975 3970

During the evenings from 6.30 pm and at weekends, care is provided by the local General Practitioner Co-operative, FRENDOC, based at Frenchay Hospital. Calls should be for emergencies or problems that will not wait until the surgery re-opens. Where appropriate the Doctor will give you telephone advice, or you will be invited to attend the Primary Care Centre, based in the main Outpatients Department. Home visits are for the house bound or terminally ill. Where transport is a problem please ask a neighbour, relative, friend or call a taxi to attend the Primary Care Centre. For simple advice you may wish

to contact NHS Direct :

Telephone advice - Telephone 0117 967 5201

Your doctor or practice nurse will be pleased to offer urgent help and advice over the telephone.  Please try to avoid surgery hours: i.e. ring late morning or early afternoon.  If the doctor or practice nurse is unavailable he or she will try to return your call later in the day.

Remember there are other options apart from seeing  a doctor.  You could see the Nurse Practitioner who is trained to see patients with new problems, especially minor illness.  For contraception, blood pressure check, asthma or diabetes and many other problems you can see a practice nurse.  Alternatively you can book a telephone consultation with a doctor for after morning surgery which may be all you need.

You can also contact NHS direct to locate an NHS dentist for dental treatment.

When you do make an appointment with the doctor, here are some tips towards  a consultation:

Always remember that if your medical problem is urgent then please say so.  We will fit you in even if all appointments are already taken.

1.      Try not to bring a whole list of things that are impossible to cover in a single    appointment.

2.      If you do want to discuss several things please say so at the beginning. We can then spend the most time on the more important things.

3.      Try to discuss what you feel is the most important problem for you at the

     start.
